Masking Motors

Overview

A 4-way masking system enables any theatre venue to present unlimited formats professionnally and with ease. The Strong / MDI design allows for fully automated control at any point in the theatre and/or projection room. Utilizing movable masking in any size theatre can create the flexibility necessary to keep a theatre profitable regardless of the format projected on the screen. A projected image on any screen looks and feels superior if the picture is masked off properly.

The Strong / MDI Structure was specifically designed to support a complete masking system safely and efficiently. This structure is composed of steel beams and uprights which are assembled on site. The system is ready to be installed, as soon as it is out of the box; no changes to the system are required because it has been designed to fit in YOUR theatre.

In addition, Strong / MDI supplies with each system a complete manual with clear instructions, schematics and pictures to illustrate the different stages of the installation, and the important measurements necessary to install the structure safely and with ease.

The operation of the masking is done through electric motors which can be supplied for top, bottom and side masking; all the three masking are available independantly or all together. The operation of the bottom and top masking may be independant as well. This means a versatility that can’t be matched by other systems because the masking motors have 10 different programmable stops and 4 selectable speeds. The masking operation is also very quiet.

The MDI 4-way masking system can only be used in conjunction with the MDI Screen Frame and Structure. The installation of the masking system takes place during the screen frame and screen installation. Retrofits are possible if the structure was originally supplied by Strong / MDI.

There is a theatre design requirement of a minimum distance between the floor and the bottom edge of the screen which is dependant of the distance of the travel of the bottom masking. This minimum distance allows room for the masking apparatus to be installed properly.
